Living Life to the Fullest
With the new year having started, everyone is scrambling to determine their "new years resolution", but I have found that often times, these resolutions simply just do not stick. Some people want to lose weight, quit smoking, eat better, go to the gym daily, spend more time with family, and so on and so on. They will buy their new membership to the gym, and they will set up yoga classes or new morning routines that allow extra time for working out in the mornings. Some will run out to the grocery store for all that broccoli, kale and spinach, in order to plan healthier meals, but after a few weeks, people are already bored with their "resolutions", and ultimately they have set themselves up for failure. Once they fall out of that new routine of having a kale smoothie every morning, or going to the gym daily, it is so easy to just give up on ourselves, and on any change at all.
So I personally have decided that instead of setting all these new and immediate expectations on myself, just because the date of the year has changed, I will simply set one new expectation into place, and I will do what I can to make changes, slowly but surely. This is my method of setting INTENTIONS! With knowing how difficult major changes can be for a person, and how easy it is to "fall off the wagon", why not just set the intention of simply becoming a better version of yourself. Why not strive for being a little better each day, instead of trying to change EVERYTHING all within just a few weeks? Why not live an abundant life, in a positive way, and allow yourself to make small changes, one foot in front of the other, each day, until you have set a healthier routine into place.
Setting Intentions for a Better YOU
People often think they are going to see huge results within a few weeks of making changes, and when they don't see what they are expecting, they feel they have failed, and they quit working towards their goals. Some want to lose 20 pounds and they think it should happen in just weeks. And when they only lose 5 pounds in those weeks, BAMMM, they feel they have failed. So instead of setting limits on ourselves, or these specific expectations that we struggle to meet, lets just try to set positive intentions. Set your intentions within your heart, and within your soul. Try not to just focus on one or two specific goals, or trying to just achieve one thing that you think you lack. Instead, lets set intentions for positive change as a whole!
Set your intention that will allow you to focus more purposefully on who you are now, and who you want to be, and then put your values into perspective, decide what matters most to you, and what changes can be made in your daily routine for you to BE who you want to be, and follow that intention out. I have even found it easier when we focus on one month at a time, and we set our intention either in a spiritual way within ourselves, or just as a habit change that provides us clarity and motivation when we are working towards the things we want to focus on that month. Maybe it IS to go to the gym, or it IS to eat healthier, or maybe you want to forgive someone who hurt you, or you want to find a more rewarding job, or you seek a more loving relationship with your significant other. Set that intention, take baby steps that month, and watch the amazing new habits that you'll form, and the changes that you will see!
Positive intentions are the best ways to make positive and healthy changes, set new habits and routines, and see results you are looking for! So give it a try. Speak kindly to yourself. Love yourself. Forgive yourself for your flaws, and forgive others who don't live up to your expectations. Set your intention, and decide what is most important to you and what you want to do to see healthy changes in all aspects of your life. Setting positive intentions will remind you of what you truly want out of life, and it will help you cultivate the things that matter most to you. And isn't this what we all want when we are setting these "new year resolutions"? Just simply to be our best us? So set your intention, and go out and rule it! You've got this!
